Is SCUBA Diving suitable for kids?

Updated: Sep 15

SCUBA diving is a great activity for all ages, we teach people from as young as 10 with our oldest learner being into their 60's!

There aren't many family activities that can be enjoyed by the whole family for as long as SCUBA diving can be enjoyed. As well as enjoying it as a group it can be enjoyed separately, so when the kids fly the nest they already have a hobby and so do you!

As with all #PADI qualifications, they last a lifetime so how does SCUBA diving work with kids?

The main differences between the Junior Open Water Diver and the standard Open Water Diver courses are smaller classes and shallower depth limits. Otherwise, the PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification requirements are the same as for Open Water Diver.

How do I upgrade from Junior Open Water to Open Water?

The Junior Open Water Diver course has the same performance requirements as the Open Water course, so there’s no need to re-take the Open Water Diver course once the diver turns 15, to upgrade the certification you need to;

Order a replacement Certification Card

The Junior Open Water Diver course covers the same information and skills as the Open Water Diver course. So, a Jr. Open Water Diver may upgrade to Open Water Diver by simply ordering a replacement card once they turn 15 years old.

There’s nothing special you need to do when you order a PADI card online or from a dive shop. The new card will automatically be printed without the “Junior” designation if the diver is at least 15 years old.
